After the Event: Sophie Zalokar

“Thank you so much. It was absolutely wonderful to listen to Sophie’s talk.  So meaningful and she is such a delightful lady.  Her recipes look amazing and I will purchase her book.  I love the South Perth Library and all the wonderful things you do for children as well as adults.” Marion

The final Words with Wine for 2014 was enjoyed by a full house of enthusiastic library patrons; many of whom had lived in the Southern Forests region and had interesting stories to share at question time. Sophie Zalokar spoke about her training and how she came to be a chef who responds to the fresh seasonal produce she uses to put her own spin on classic dishes. She spoke with passion about her enjoyment of locally grown food and signature dishes that are only found in particular regions when she travelled through Europe.

After training with Australian Icon Chef, Maggie Beer in the Adelaide Hills, Sophie cooked her way around the world and came to settle in Fremantle. Sophie and her partner Chris and their two children moved to Pemberton in 2005.  They began the renovation and extension of their 19 acre property: “We built new accommodation, dug a productive kitchen garden, started a learning curve with farm animals and crafted a forty-seat dining room with a large commercial kitchen; relaunching as Foragers in March 2011.” foragers-logo

Everyone enjoyed viewing a selection of the stunning photos from Sophie’s book as she spoke and Adam from Millpoint Café Bookshop, was kept busy with sales at the end of the evening. I think I know what some people are getting for Christmas!
