Dee also shared some longer lasting tips such as:
- Breathe properly. This means making the exhalation longer than the inhalation and at the same time ensuring you fill the bottom section of your lungs. You can tell you are doing this if your diaphram rises and falls as you breathe. If you do this for 20mins per day you can add 10 years to your life!!
- 8hours of quality sleep per night minimum. Apparently we need regular deep sleep to access brain chemicals that keep our seratonin levels in the happy zone. Training yourself to go into deep sleep is possible but takes time, so having a regular sleep routine is important for resilience and general sanity.
- Relax Daily. Not recreation but relaxation. And the difference is that relaxation means both your breath rate and heart rate slow down. Recommended relaxation techniques include reading, meditation, conscious breathing (see above), cloud watching, relaxation massage, listening to soothing music.
- Use Frankincense Essential Oil. Simply put a couple of drops in your palm, rub together to warm it up and then cup your hands over your nose and breathe deeply. Frankincense Oil has been proven to stimulate relaxation and calmness. Great to use prior to a situation that you anticipate could be stressful. Make sure you get essential oil with an Australian accreditation number – it is more expensive but it is the oil that works; the others just smell nice.
