After the Event: Sally Carbon

The kids learned all about the Olympics this week from former Olympic gold medallist Sally Carbon. Sally won gold for Australia in 1988 in Women’s Field Hockey and is the author of the children’s books, ‘I want to be a Footballer’ and ‘I Want to be an Olympian’.

Sally’s talk for children at Manning Library was enjoyed by children and parents alike as she spoke on the changing history of the Olympic Games, including some interesting and often amusing facts. A highlight of the talk for me would have to be seeing the looks on the children’s faces (and the laughter that followed) upon learning that the ancient Greeks once performed their sporting feats in the nude – my how times have changed!

Don’t forget to enter our Olympic competitions to test your own Olympic knowledge. Forms for our ‘Champions Read’ competition can be collected from Manning or South Perth Library- just fill out the answers and pop it in the box at the front desk for your chance to be a winner!
