After the Event – Laughter Class

Last week South Perth Library welcomed Grant Stone to host a laughter class to promote wellbeing. The booked out event began with the local laughter ambassador explaining how he had looked for ways to improve his health after suffering a stroke. Inspired by a program featuring Doctor Madan Kataria, who teaches a form of laughter yoga in India, Grant set about researching possibilities for a similar project in WA. Now a certified laughter guru himself, Grant is the founder of Laugh WA, a club that regularly meets in Perth to celebrate community and practise laughter yoga.

Grant began the session with some simple exercises to get the laughter flowing, such as clapping, chanting and fake laughter (that usually became the real thing!). The group pointed imaginary wands at each other to cast laughter spells, giggled behind their hands and even bent over to shake hands with others from between their legs. After each exercise the laughs flowed and by the end Grant clearly left a happier and healthier group.

If only every kind of class could be such fun!
