Rainy Day Reading
Brrr! It’s cold and stormy here in South Perth today. There was a little smattering of hail on my windscreen on the way in to work this morning, and sideways rain when I went out to buy cake for lunch.
So, how are you staying warm this weekend? Will you be cosying up with a good book? I’m going to finish re-reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I love this book so very much – and not just becuase I have a signed copy! There is a jewel of a sentence on every page. Words that glow and are quite simply beautiful. Add it to your “to read” list if you haven’t yet. It is the story of Liesel – a girl who steals books. It is the story of the Jew who hides in her basement, who fights Hitler in his dreams every day. It is the story of Death – who has a better sense of humour than you might imagine. It is a story of war and love and family and so much more than I can convey in a simple review. Trust me. Read it. It may make you cry, but it will also keep you warm.
